Developing the Transmission and Distribution Systems
Gas Networks Ireland produces a number of long-and short-term plans for the overall development of the network. Gas Networks Ireland subsequently oversees the implementation of the plans, inputs its technical expertise and is responsible for sign-off. The key activities of transmission and distribution systems development are:
- Supply and demand analysis
- Network analysis
- Project design and costing
- Project delivery
Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for these activities, specifies and plans the system development work to be undertaken and reflects this work load in the annual plan.
Maintaining the Transmission and Distribution Systems
Gas Networks Ireland, as system operator, is responsible for maintaining the network. Gas Networks Ireland conducts the system maintenance work to be undertaken, which is then reflected in an annual maintenance plan. Activities include:
- Development and implementation of maintenance policies/standards
- Monitoring the network and identification/specification of maintenance requirements
- Maintenance execution
- Asset replacement
Operating the Transmission and Distribution Systems
Gas Networks Ireland is responsible for operating a secure, reliable and efficient transmission and distribution systems. Gas Networks Ireland is also responsible for the development of operations policies, codes and standards and for operating the transportation system. As with development and maintenance, the operations processes are executed by Gas Networks Ireland.
